Fly fisherman accustomed to graphite rods will be very surprised at the easy transition to bamboo using our light weight rods. The tapers are designed for that extra crisp action that bamboo has to offer!
Our product line is focused on the needs of the traveling fly fisherman. All rods are 3 piece designs for ease of portability!
Every JV Rod Co. Bamboo Fly Rod begins with the bamboo. We only use select Tonkin cane imported from China. Each pole of cane is carefully inspected and marked for surface defects and is carefully crosscut to remove the stiff nodes. The pole is split and re-sawed to produce thin strips of bamboo consisting of only the strongest outer power fibers. The strips are then painstakingly tested for resiliency and other defects.
The thin bamboo strips are carefully tempered in a special oven and ready for laminating.
The bamboo strips are then laminated to a select aircraft grade light weight wood forming a composite core to be scarfed together to yield strips that are of suitable length for the desired rod model.
The scarfed composite core strips are then carefully tapered and beveled on special table saws capable of holding tolerances of one-one thousandth of an inch.
The strips are then semi-hollowed on a special horizontal indexing machine to further reduce the weight of the rod!
The strips are bonded together with a waterproof industrial grade adhesive, and the sections are then carefully hand sanded and machined for precision nickel silver ferrules.
The guides are wrapped with only the finest thread, and coated with a maintenance free finish.
